International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)

Vision
To be a high-performing internal audit team that meets the expectations of stakeholders by following the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) and in conformance with the 2024 Global Internal Audit Standards.

Business Partner …who is seen as an ally encouraging a culture of governance, accountability, and compliance.

Trusted Advisor …objective and reliable professionals with understanding of the agency’s culture, systems, and processes who collaborate to assist the agency in achieving its objectives.

Independent Resource …who are positioned in the organization to provide independence with direct accountability to executive management.

Mission
Providing independent assessments of financial, regulatory, and operational risks and control effectiveness to help the agency meets its objectives and fulfill its commitment to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The internal audit team is a component of the Bureau of Strategic Governance (BSG). Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve Virginia State Police operations. The internal audit team accomplishes its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

The internal audit team strengthens operations while protecting both internal and external stakeholders.
